Dr Alexandros X.M. Ntovas, Lecturer in Shipping Law and leader of the LLM in International Shipping Law (Piraeus, Greece) at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), was invited by the European Law Students Association, to deliver a lecture on “Private armed guards on board ships: Policy issues, legal status and insurance implications”, at the summer school ‘Maritime Law: Insurance law and piracy issues’, in Athens, Greece. The lecture was part of the 2nd very successful International Summer Law School organized by The European Law Students' Association - ELSA Greece, which took place in Athens from 17-24 July 2016.
Participants were law students from all over the world and the academic programme contained a variety of courses outline and covered a wide spectrum of Maritime Law, Marine Insurance, Piracy and Law of the Sea. In Piraeus they visited the historical Hellas Liberty, Piraeus Naval Museum, as well as the Hellenic Management Centre, where they attended the lecture given by Dr Ntovas. The Hellenic Management Centre, proud Partner of Elsa Greece, would like to congratulate the organizers for their efforts that led to this successful event, which we hope will be established and will take place annually, contributing in making Piraeus an international academic maritime hub.
