Director of CCLS, Professor Ian Walden, and Christine Zhou, Head of Business Development and Programme Management (International), visited various partner institutions, held offer holder events, and alumni reunions in South Korea and China between 13 and 22 May 2019.
The 10-day trip involved visits to government organisations, including the British Embassy in Seoul, Korean Intellectual Property Office, and China Intellectual Property Training Centre. Professor Walden and Ms Zhou also attended meetings with top-league universities, including Peking University, Renmin University of China and Shanghai Jiaotong University.
CCLS has a diverse network of partners in East Asia, especially in South Korea and China. This was the first official trip for the new Director and was designed to strengthen existing strategic relationships with key partners, as well as identify new opportunities to collaborate on research and teaching. CCLS has a particular interest in understanding developments in FinTech and AI in Asia and how they impact people’s lives.
During the trip to Seoul, Shanghai and Beijing, Professor Walden met offer holders, visiting scholars and numerous alumni. Professor Walden said: “It is great to see people who have studied with us, visited us and who are coming to join us at the same time; sharing their experiences, insights, enthusiasm and commitment to CCLS.”
