The Centre for Commercial Law Studies (Queen Mary University of London) and Maastricht University are proudly coming together to launch a series of executive education courses.

Combining the Centre for Commercial Law Studies’ expertise in common law, focusing on the UK and US perspective, with the expertise of Maastricht University in continental and EU Law matters, our programmes address practical legal aspects pertaining to an international commercial ecosystem. Such a collaboration brings together two academic institutions that have an outstanding reputation in commercial law, offering practical and multi-jurisdictional insights into evolving areas of commerce. With the further aim to respond to market needs and societal concerns, we look forward to welcoming you at one of our trainings.

Our newly-established executive education course is on ‘Trade Secrets Protection’. Its objective is to offer a great opportunity for participants to gain a global perspective when considering the importance of trade secrets for commercial business. The two-day course will highlight the importance of trade secrets for commercial business, identifying and considering the key European jurisdictions and the changes introduced by the EU Trade Secrets Directive.

Ideally located in Brussels, professionals from across Europe can benefit from the course while meeting like-minded practitioners to expand their network.

This programme is designed for legal practitioners, government officials, academic lawyers, policy makers, business executives responsible for commercial security and others concerned with the protection of valuable intangible business assets. Prior knowledge of intellectual property is not a requirement for attendance at this programme.

Queen Mary’s Professor Noam Shemtov said, “We are delighted to join our forces with Maastricht University for a series of executive education courses. Our aim is to offer access to a network of leading experts with extensive discipline knowledge, as well as create a community of practitioners where professionals can share and benefit from common experiences.”

Maastricht’s Professor Anselm Kamperman Sanders said, “Knowledge tends to flow freely and this is the same across borders where employees have become more mobile, especially when competitors make better offers. Taught by legal professionals from practice, academia, the judiciary and industry, this course offers an excellent professional development opportunity.”

The Trade Secrets course will take place at the Maastricht University campus in Brussels from 17 to 18 May 2022. Registration to join is now open.
