On 8 February 2024, the Queen Mary - UNIDROIT Institute of Transnational Commercial Law hosted a Roundtable on 'The UNIDROIT Principles on Digital Assets and Private Law'.
Professor Louise Gullifer, Rouse Ball Professor of English Law at the University of Cambridge, gave a presentation on 'The benefits of the UNIDROIT Principles on Digital Assets and Private Law for the global markets in digital assets'.
She explained why the approach taken by the Principles is the most useful in a global context, focusing, by way of illustration, on three main points covered by the Principles which have proved or are likely to prove to be important in the development of successful markets.
Simon Gleeson, consultant to Clifford Chance, gave an insightful reply drawing on the wider commercial context. The event was moderated by the Secretary-General of UNIDROIT, Prof Ignacio Tirado. We had a lively audience in the room and online who asked our panel interesting and some difficult questions.
The event was organised by Professor Rosa Lastra, the Sir John Lubbock Chair in Banking Law, and Dr Franziska Arnold-Dwyer, Senior Lecturer in Insurance Law, Contract Law and Sustainability at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary University of London. The event was followed by refreshments.
