Dr Gill Harper, honorary post-doctoral research fellow in health data science, will present the ASSIGN algorithm to delegates at the GeoPlace annual conference on 10 May.
ASSIGN was developed by CEG and Endeavour Health Charitable Trust to inform powerful new research into the wider determinants of health. The algorithm assigns Unique Property Reference Numbers (UPRNs) to patient health records, using Ordnance Survey’s Address Base Premium database. This enables large-scale analysis of property information and health at household level, while keeping addresses and identities hidden from researchers. Using residential addresses as part of health research can help us to understand how a person’s health may be influenced by social and environmental factors, like the characteristics of their household or local air pollution levels.
GeoPlace is a partnership owned equally by Local Government Association and Ordnance Survey. Dr Harper will present the ASSIGN algorithm to delegates on day one of the GeoPlace annual conference, among a line-up of speakers from central and local government and the private sector. The speakers will share approaches to using address and street data to drive transformation and inform public services, with day one focused on presenting challenges and solutions, and day two focused on the technical aspects of managing address data.
The GeoPlace conference 2023 takes place on Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 May via a dedicated live-streaming website - view the agenda.
