Professor Doris BussProfessor of Law and Legal Studies, Carleton University, CanadaEmail: doris.buss@carleton.caProfilePublicationsExpertiseProfileI am professor of Law and Legal Studies at Carleton University, with over twenty years of experience researching gender in the areas of international law and human rights, transitional justice, women’s rights, resource extraction, and in institutions of higher education. My current research focuses on three areas. The first is gender and resource extraction. Working with Blair Rutherford (Sociology & Anthropology, Carleton University) and colleagues in Kenya, Mozambique and Sierra Leone, this research examines gendered livelihoods in informal -'artisanal and small-scale' - mining in sub-Saharan Africa. A second and related research focus examines gender in global governance arenas, particularly on resource extraction. Here I am examine how representations of women (with a new focus on child labour) constitute resource extraction as a site of law and policy intervention. The third research focus is on gender and intersecting vectors of social difference in higher education.ResearchPublicationsThe list of recent publications is available here.ExpertiseFeminist theory and feminist political economy, international law and politics, international development, resource extraction, human rights, armed conflict and transitional justice.
