She holds a PhD in social anthropology from SOAS, London, and an MA in Education and Swahili from the University of Frankfurt. Fay has conducted research on child protection in Zanzibar, young Swahili-speakers of the socalled Zanzibar Diaspora in Oman, and recently started working on contemporary feminist political practice in Tanzania mainland. Her work engages social and linguistic anthropology, Feminist Indian Ocean Studies, as well as arts-based and feminist ethnographic approaches.
