His dissertation project examines the relationship between welfare policy, family law, and social scientific understandings of child poverty in late-twentieth-century American governance. In particular, it explores the expansion and federalization of child support enforcement and related legal infrastructures that defined and policed the obligations of parents whose children received welfare.
