She is Professor of African and Global History at Exeter, and the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Science Director of Postgraduate Research. She is Principal Investigator in the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council grant 'Children of War: Evolving Local and Global Understandings of Child Soldiering in African Conflicts, c.1940-2000’ (AH/X00399X/1). She has also published on murder, capital punishment, criminal justice, domestic violence, juvenile delinquency, and forced labour in colonial history, focusing primarily on Ghana, Kenya and Malawi.
