Profile

My research interests span children's geographies and geographies of education, with a particular interest in children and young people's experiences of and learning about sustainable cities, environmental resources, climate change and alternative education. I experiment with a range of interdisciplinary methods and theories, inspired particularly by nonrepresentational, new materialist and posthumanist philosophies. I am the author of 10 books and over 100 journal articles and book chapters - my most recent book being 'After Childhood: Rethinking Environment, Materiality and Media in Children's Lives (Routledge, 2020). I am a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences (UK) and currently Honorary Secretary for the Research and HE Division of the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG). I currently lead or co-lead projects about young Brazilians' experiences of climate change in urban peripheries, children's role in the future of the UK's treescapes, and am an Executive Member of the NIHR School for Public Health Research.
