Mona has been a professor at the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law, Civil Law Section since 2007. She is currently Vice-Dean for graduate studies. She holds a PhD in law from Queen Mary University of London. She is a founding member and director of the Interdisciplinary Research Laboratory on the Rights of the Child (LRIDE/IRLRC).
