He has taught comparative law courses at UKM's Centre of Islamic Law, including child law, human rights and Islam, family law, Sharia court procedure, Islamic criminal law, law and multi-faith society, and the Malaysian legal system. Over the years, he has supervised postgraduate students on various Islamic law topics, including issues related to children's rights, particularly in Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia. He is interested in Islamic law and society, Islam and human rights, religious freedom, and children's rights. He has participated in many university and national research projects and led eight that UKM, international agencies, Islamic authorities, and the government funded. One of the projects he led that had legal reform and policy implications was a study funded by UNICEF on child marriage, which investigated this harmful practice in various communities in Malaysian multi-ethnic society.
