Sponsored by the Childhood, Law & Policy Network, this webinar series explores social, political, educational, and medical issues concerning children and their bodies. The webinars bring together experts from diverse fields to provide critical insights into these important topics. Attendance is free but registration in advance is required.

1. Children’s sports and physical education

Tuesday 3 December 2024, 5–6.30pm (GMT)

The first webinar will focus on children’s voices and experiences in sports and physical education.

Speakers:

  • Suzanne Everley (Reader in the Sociology of Physical Education, Activity and Health, the University of Chichester).
  • Déirdre Ní Chróinín (Head of the Department of Arts Education and Physical Education, Mary Immaculate College).
  • Bonnie Pang (Senior Lecturer in Sport and Deputy Director of the Centre for Qualitative Research, the University of Bath).

2. Children’s food practices

Tuesday 4 February 2025, 5–6.30pm (GMT)

In the second webinar, three expert panellists will discuss social and professional discourses and practices regarding children’s relationship with food.

Panellists:

  • Sarah Gillborn (Assistant Professor in Psychology in Education, the University of Birmingham).
  • Tina Moffat (Professor of Anthropology, McMaster University).
  • Jennifer Patico (Professor and Chair of Anthropology, Georgia State University).

3. Childhood and disability

The third webinar will shed light on theoretical and practical questions concerning childhood and disability.

Panellists:

  • Harriet Cooper (Lecturer in Medical Education (Humanities and Sociology), the University of East Anglia).
  • Antonios Ktenidis (Lecturer in Education in the School of Education, the University of Sheffield).
  • Anastasia Todd (Assistant Professor of Gender and Women’s Studies, the University of Kentucky).

4. Children's gender/sex

In the fourth webinar, three expert panellists will discuss social and medical norms and practices concerning children's gender/sex.
