Since 2001 she is a senior specialist (the highest medical qualification awarded by contest by the Ministry of Health of Romania) in General Stomatology. She also has a postgraduate certificate in PR and Communication, awarded by the University of Bucharest in 2002. Ruxandra started her academic career at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Carol Davila, in Romania, in 1994, where, for 13 years she has been a lecturer in Oral Rehabilitation, Preventive Dentistry, Community Dentistry, Oral Health and Behavioural Sciences and Ethics. From 2001 until 2007 she was the Head of the Oral Health and Behavioural Sciences Department. She was a co-developer of the curricula for the Dental Hygienist College at UMFCD, Bucharest (1995-2007), where she has taught Periodontology, Prevention and Community Dentistry. Dr Moraru has participated to national and international research projects, some of them involving closed and disadvantaged communities: care homes, institutions for disabled, prisons etc. Her PhD Thesis is related to prevention of caries and periodontal disease in institutionalized adolescents with learning difficulties. She co- founded the Romanian Association of Disability and Oral Health, affiliated IADH. In 2007 she relocated to the UK and has been a busy and successful GDP in a corporate body. In 2009 Dr Ruxandra Moraru has joined QMUL at the Southend Outreach for Dentistry and currently is the Academic Clinical Lead of the Southend Academic Dental Clinic.
