Teaching

Dr Swati Nehete is Clinical Reader in Restorative Dentistry and Clinical Assessment. She is the previous Academic Lead for Assessment for Taught Programmes at the Institute of Dentistry. She has worked at QMUL since her original appointment in 2004 and has held various roles during this period.  She is the current Chair of the Dental Schools Council Assessment Alliance (DSCAA) and therefore a member of Dental Schools Council (DSC). She is the founding member and Chair of the Dental Schools Council Working Group for AI in Education and Assessment. 

She fulfils the role of Academic Misconduct Officer on behalf of the Head of School.  She is the Academic Lead for Case presentations in Years 3, 4 and 5 BDS components.  She is the Lead for Treatment Planning Theme for Years 3, 4, 5 BDS, and Lead for Lifelong Learning for Years 1 – 5 BDS. She is the representative for Undergraduate studies on the NHS Barts Health ICT project.  

She is a trained Mental Health First Aider, Dignity Disclosure Officer and the current Chair of the Staff Wellbeing and Support Group at IoD.  She is the QMUL BDA Health and Safety Representative and represents the BDA at the CCUDER and the QMUL Health and Safety Advisory Group since 2010. 

She has participated in IQE, ORE and LDS registration examinations. She is currently the Lead for Part III component of the LDS examination.  She has recently stepped down as an elected member of council for the BSSPD, but continues to represent it on the Clinical Guidelines group of the RCS Eng.  

She has an active interest in translational research relating to bioactive glasses and is a Clinical Advisor to BioMin Technologies and held a KOL for Abbott Pharmaceuticals India.  She has a keen interest in e-learning and set up the Tooth Morphology app and BLS app and continues to work on varying projects to include innovative platforms for education and assessment.  

Dr Swati Nehete qualified from Government Dental College and Hospital Mumbai.  She completed an MSc in Prosthetics at the Eastman Dental Institute with an in vitro research project studying the effect of physiological dental movements on screws within implant prostheses using strain gauges. She completed Senior House Officer jobs in Maxillofacial surgery and Restorative Dentistry before commencing practice briefly on the NHS and working at KCL as a part time Clinical Lecturer.

Research Interests:

My current main research interests are in Temporomandibular Joint research and BioMin Bioactive glasses.  I am a Clinical Advisor to BioMin Technologies.

I have previous research experience in physiological masticatory forces and their influence on implant screw loosening.
