Suthesh Sivapalaratnam Consultant in Haemostasis and Thrombosis/ Honorary Senior Lecturer ProfileProfileDr Suthesh Sivapalaratnam studied Medicine at the University of Amsterdam. He was awarded a PhD fellowship by the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam and did his research between the University of Cambridge (Supervisor: Prof. W. H. Ouwehand) and the University of Amsterdam (Supervisor: Prof. M. Levi). In 2012 he defended his thesis on “The Molecular Basis of Early onset Cardiovascular Disease”. Suthesh received his core medical training at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam. During this period, he also completed a 12-month stint as a Post-doctoral Fellow at the Center for Human Genetic Research at the Massachusetts General Hospital Boston and the Broad Institute, Boston (USA). In 2015 he rejoined the Ouwehand Group, where he continued his research and focused on the genetic basis of rare inherited Bleeding and Platelet Disorders. In 2015 he secured one of the highly prestigious TRTH fellowships of the American Society of Haematology/European Haematology Association. From February 2016 onwards, as an Academic Clinical Fellow, he combined his research with Specialist Registrar Haematology training at the Barts Health rotation in London and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologist in December 2020. After deepening his knowledge in paediatric haematology at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London, he entered the GMC Specialist Register in March 2021. He is an active member of the Scientific and Academic Coagulation Consortium (SACC) and a member of the Local Organising Committee for the London 2022 International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) scientific meeting. He has co-authored over 70 papers in peer reviewed journals. Currently, he is a locum consultant at Barts NHS Trust in paediatric and adult haemostasis and thrombosis where he splits his time between academic and clinical duties.
