Title: Vision-Based Sign Language Processing: Recognition, Translation, and GenerationAbstract: Sign languages, also known as signed languages, serve as the primary communication method among the deaf and hard-of-hearing people, using both manual and non-manual parameters to convey information. These visual languages possess distinct grammatical structures and vocabularies that generally differ from their spoken language counterparts, resulting in a two-way communication gap between the deaf and hearing. In this talk, I will discuss my contributions to various areas of sign language processing: recognition (transcribing sign language videos into glosses), translation (translating sign language videos into texts), and generation (translating texts back into sign languages), aiming at narrowing the communication gap.Bio: Dr Ronglai Zuo is a postdoctoral research associate at Imperial College London. Before that, he completed his PhD at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His research focuses on sign language processing, striving to enhancing the accessibility of sign languages. Most of his works have been published in top CV/ML/NLP conferences such as CVPR, NeurIPS, and EMNLP. He was also a research intern at Microsoft Research and was honored with the Stars of Tomorrow Award.
