Queen Mary University of London has joined The Alan Turing Institute’s new university network, further strengthening its ties to the Institute and its connections with other leading universities
The Turing University Network is a key component of The Alan Turing Institute’s new strategy, which aims to change the world for the better with data science and AI. The network supports the Institute in achieving its three ambitious goals: advance world-class research and apply it to national and global challenges, build skills for the future, and drive an informed public conversation.
Queen Mary first joined the Institute as a university partner in 2018, and is one of 36 universities joining this pilot network. As a member, Queen Mary will be able to further its data science and AI aims through easier engagement and collaboration with both the Institute and its broader networks, such as industry partners.
Queen Mary’s membership of the Turing University Network builds on its data science and AI expertise, and at DERI we are pleased to be able to continue our leading role in the engagement with the Network, on behalf of Queen Mary. The DERI Director, Professor Greg Slabaugh will assume the Turing Liaison (Academic) role, with the DERI Institute Manager, Emma Grant, acting as the Turing Liaison.
Professor Greg Slabaugh, Turing University Lead at Queen Mary and Director of DERI, said: “We are delighted to join the Turing University Network. Queen Mary has worked closely with the Turing Institute for several years already, and we look forward to strengthening this partnership.
“Queen Mary has significant research ambitions alongside recognised expertise in digital and data science – as can be seen by DERI and the ground-breaking research it makes possible. The Turing University Network and its connections will undoubtedly help us drive forward our ambitions of a world-class research environment and outputs that improve all corners of society.”
Donna Brown, Director of Academic Engagement at The Alan Turing Institute, said: “We’re delighted to launch a new UK-wide university network of data science and AI expertise via the Turing University Network. The network is crucial to successful delivery of the Institute Strategy, enables our role as a national convenor in the data science and AI landscape, and creates opportunity for meaningful collaboration where interests align across research and innovation, skills, and engagement.”
