istock purchased 140621

In today’s climate the need for safe, explainable, and responsible development in AI has never been so pressing. AI capability is rapidly increasing with instances of industry led development and a lack of accountability fueling concerns in this space. This research platform establishes capability in this space, contributing to the national picture and positioning the University well to respond, and feed into Government  policy

This area is spearheaded by Professor David Leslie, Professor of Ethics, Technology and Society at Queen Mary University London, and Director of Ethics and Responsible at The Alan Turing Institute, and Professor Gina Neff, Professor of Responsible AI. Research in this theme draws on colleagues from across the disciplines to tackle the rapidly emerging, and impactful advances in AI, seeking to address challenges from across the breath of the theme. Current research focuses on the ethical side of AI, data justice, and human rights, in addition to looking to implement governance, seeking to utilise research to influence policy decisions on the national and international stage.
