Disability

As the only campus-based Russell Group university in London, we provide an inclusive environment for students with a range of needs

An inclusive environment

With our campus in Central London, we are a particularly attractive choice for students with disabilities who wish to study at an internationally-renowned institution.

Much of the Mile End campus, including all of the Student Village, has been built relatively recently with good disability access. Where improvements need to made (especially with older buildings), the University is working to address these in line with our Strategy 2030 goal of becoming the "most inclusive university of its kind, anywhere".

The Disability and Dyslexia Service has been working closely with the Projects Office since 2008 to eliminate any barriers to access for disabled people. In the event that there’s an issue with accessing any part of the University’s campuses, Queen Mary will endeavour to resolve this as a matter of urgency.

Queen Mary has worked with AccessAble in order to produce Access Guides for our campuses. If the information you need is not available through the AccessAble Guides, then please contact Queen Mary’s Estates and Facilities Department for a map of accessible entrances, toilet facilities and car parks.

Support from other departments

Library Services

The Library offers special facilities for students with disabilities; for example, you will be able to renew books via email and over the phone.  A small number of individual study carrels are available to students with disabilities, (e.g. if you have a condition that affects your concentration and need to study on your own). Find out more on the Library's website.

Language Centre

The Language Centre also provide short study skills courses, which are available to all students. These can be particularly useful for students with disabilities who want to know how to best use their time and energy when studying in higher education.

Student Health Service

All Queen Mary students are encouraged to register with the on-site GP surgery through the Student Health Service at Mile End.
