Meet our panelist Dr Gloria González Aseguinolaza

Dr Gloria González Aseguinolaza graduated in Biology from the University of the Basque Country and then completed her doctoral thesis at the Center for Biological Research of the Spanish Scientific Research Council, Madrid, under the direction of research professor Vicente Larraga.

After her PhD, she worked for three and a half years with Dr Ruth Nussenzweig and Dr Moriya Tsuji (New York University), pioneering researchers in the search for new vaccines and treatments for malaria. She returned to Spain to join the Department of Gene Therapy and Hepatology of the University of Navarra, to lead the laboratory of Gene Therapy of Liver Diseases of the Centre for Applied Medical Research of the University of Navarra, CIMA. From 2014 to 2019, she was the Director of the Gene therapy and Regulation of Gene Expression at CIMA. Dr González Aseguinolaza is co-founder and scientific director of Vivet Therapeutics, a biotech company for the development of Gene therapy for liver inherited diseases, founded in 2016. She is also currently the President of the Spanish Society of Gene and Cell Therapy and a board member of the European Society of Gene and Cell Therapy.

Dr González-Aseguinolaza has published more than 100 articles in international journals and has continued regional, national, and international funding. She participates as commissioner in the State Agency for Research Evaluation and in the evaluation of projects for different national and international agencies. She has trained 16 PhD students and 25 undergraduate, graduate and Master’s students.

Dr González Aseguinolaza will take part in the panel discussion on perceptions of stereotypes applied to women who publicly communicate their STEMM work, on 26th March 2021 at 3:15pm GMT.
