Tell us about your work I am the Programme Coordinator of the Creative Computing degree in our School of Electronic Engineering & Computer Science, and the Programme Director of the Design, Innovation & Creative Engineering degree in our School of Engineering & Materials Science. I lecture on first year creative technology modules, e.g. teaching programming to visualise data and create basic games, and I am also involved with the Design Studio work. I also lecture in Beijing as part of our Joint Programme with Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications
Tell us how you got into computer science? I was supporting my art practice with part-time jobs so I decided to take Queen Mary’s conversion MScIT (now it’s the MScCIS) to see if this could result in more interesting jobs to support my art. I enjoyed this MSc so much that I stayed on to take a PhD, then started lecturing. What’s the best thing about your work? Working with students, especially in the drawing labs, the coding labs and across all three years in the Design Studio. This is even better now that the new design studio has opened opposite the new makerspace.
When not at EECS, what are your interests? Cooking, climbing, going to exhibitions.
