Tell us about your work
I am currently the Director of Education in EECS, driving the development of the school’s undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes and initiatives around education for enhancing students’ learning experience. It is a challenging, but very rewarding role.
Tell us how you got into Electronic Engineering?
I have always been interested in Science from a young age. Both my parents were Professor in Physics and one of the activities that I enjoyed the most was to go to my father’s lab after school and tinkering with his optical table for holographic imaging. It was then a natural choice to following the Science and Engineering path throughout my education with a BEng in Radio Engineering, a MEng in Optical Communications and a PhD in Telecommunications. Now I am a Professor in Telecommunications Engineering and my research focuses around radio resource management and optimisation for 5G wireless networks.
What brought you to Queen Mary?
I was recommended to Queen Mary by my Master degree project supervisor, Prof Jintong Lin, by then the Principal of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, who had 12 years’ experience in a UK university. I was thrilled by the prospect of studying a PhD in a leading UK university and in one of the most exciting research fields. After completing my PhD in EECS, I stayed on as an academic member staff ever since.
What’s the best thing about your work?
The best thing about being in academia is that I am constantly interacting with peers and students which keeps me on top of the state-of-the-art research and in touch with the latest trends. The most rewarding moment is to see students graduating and appreciate that the education has made a difference in those young people’s life.
When not at EECS, what are your interests?
I enjoy traveling and spending time with family. I love music and singing!
