Prof Yue Chen and Prof Michael Chai
Peer learning plays an important role in learner-centred pedagogy. A joint live class was run for students on the module “Internet Protocols and Networks” at the BUPT Shahe campus and students on “Communications and Networks” at the Queen Mary Mile End Campus. The joint class was run over MS Teams and facilitated by Prof Michael Chai in Beijing and Prof Yue Chen in London.
To encourage peer learning, promote cross-culture understanding and strengthen the sense of community, students on both modules were given the same assignment. During the live session, students interacted with peers and shared their experience of conducting the group assignment. Common challenges in group working were identified and good practices in collaborative work were shared during the discussion.
This was the first attempt of promoting peer learning between students in Beijing and London which allowed students from diverse background and culture to interact directly. Both sets of students enjoyed the joint session very much.
