Concepts and methods for the description and the annotation of the semiotic structure of music pieces
Frédéric BIMBOT - IRISA, Rennes (France)
Interest has been steadily growing in the MIR community for the description of music structure, i.e. the global organization of music pieces into large-scale sectional units. Among several initiatives, our research group has been developing concepts and methodologies for the definition and annotation of the semiotic structure of music pieces, i.e. the metaphoric representation of similarities and internal relationships within a music piece, as a low-rate stream of arbitrary symbols from a limited alphabet. In concrete terms, this effort has lead to the release of several data sets annotated accordingly (over 380 pieces in total).
