When: Wednesday, November 10, 2021, 4:00 PM - 6:00 PMWhere: Virtually on Microsoft Teams
Speaker: Professor Steve Uhlig
Join us for an Inaugural Lecture with Professor Steve Uhlig on Wednesday, 10 November at 4pm, taking place virtually on Microsoft Teams.
The Internet requires no introduction.
It is the network upon which we all rely, these days more than ever in the past. During this lecture, Steve will discuss his work spanning 15 years of research, focused on understanding and attempting to improve how the Internet works.
Steve's scientific approach falls within the general area of data-based engineering. More specifically, he will describe, through examples, how he has (1) leveraged the vast amount of data available from various systems/platform/networks in the Internet, in order to (2) introduce engineering mechanisms/solutions to improve systems performance, flexibility and reliability.
On top of specific examples that illustrate his scientific approach, Steve will also explain how his recent work on programmable networks and scalable measurements allows us to generalise these examples to many other sub-systems that make operational networks and the Internet.
Finally, Steve will mention the ultimate endeavour of his work, which would be to close the network engineering feedback loop, towards removing human intervention from it as much as possible.
