Developments in software engineering: why bad software is bad and how it can be made better by artists
This will be a talk for a mainly non-technical audience to examine the state of modern software engineering and how people trained in non-computer science disciplines can contribute to good software design.
Biography: Mr. S. Bakhshi is the Lead Technologist for ICT at the Technology Strategy Board, where he works on encouraging high quality R&D in the UK in software. The Technology Strategy Board is the UK’s national innovation agency whose goal is to accelerate economic growth by stimulating and supporting business-led innovation. Sarbjit co-wrote the new ICT strategy at the TSB resulting in a focus on data exploration and visualisation, confidence in distributed systems, simpler user experiences, and advanced, modern software engineering. The TSB works right across government, business and the research community - removing the barriers to innovation, bringing organisations together to focus on opportunities, and investing in the development of new technology-based products and services for future markets. Mr. Bakhshi was previously the Head of ICT Sector Group Team at UK Trade & Investment where he worked with thousands of companies and helped them to break into new overseas markets.
