Seminar: Quantum Technology in Sensors and Metrology

Abstract: 
Building upon twenty years of fundamental research into quantum physics, we are now starting to see the emergence of new quantum technologies which often surpass classical devices. In the UK, this change is spearheaded by the National Quantum Technologies Programme. In this talk, I will introduce the Quantum Technology Hub in Sensors and Metrology.  In addition to introducing measurements of gravity, rotation and time, I will present how magnetometry can be used to characterise a range of systems, from the human brain to nanowires for the next generation of touchscreens.
Bio: 
Mark Bason is a Research Fellow at the University of Sussex. His research concentrates on the use of neutral atoms for quantum technologies, include high-sensitivity magnetic field measurements, manipulation of cold atoms and Rydberg physics. He previously worked at the University of Pisa and held a Marie Curie Individual Fellowships at Aarhus University, Denmark.
