Congratulations to Dr Usman Naeem, Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in EECS who has been awarded an Education Excellence Award by Queen Mary University of London.
Dr Usman Naeem receives his award from Professor Colin Bailey
Dr Usman Naeem was awarded for his hard work formulating an approach to track student engagement, providing learning support and assessing weekly tasks. This interactive approach not only facilitated student support queries, but also allowed the module team to get a holistic view of the topics that learners were struggling with in the lab sessions.
Dr Usman Naeem teaches on a variety of programmes within the school, ranging from traditional programmes such as our BSc Computer Science degree, to degree apprenticeships programmes including our BSc Digital and Technology Solutions course. His research focus examines assistive technologies, including machine learning techniques, mobile computing, and ambient intelligent environments.
This is the fourth year in which the Education Excellence Awards have been held, with almost 50 nominations received. Following a year in which the entire Queen Mary community worked tireless to make a difference, the challenges brought on by Covid-19 introduced a need for imaginative solutions in delivering education from Queen Mary staff.
Hosted by Professor Colin Bailey, President and Principal, and Professor Stephanie Marshall, Vice-Principal (Education), the ceremony highlighted our staff’s significant efforts furthering the commitments to excellence in education and student experience. The work over the last year has also helped Queen Mary make momentous strides towards meeting the ambitious targets set in its 2030.
Professor Colin Bailey, President and Principal, Queen Mary University of London, said: “I would like to congratulate everyone who was nominated for an award tonight. Everyone who has been nominated is working hard to deliver excellence in education, which made the task of choosing this year’s recipients as difficult as ever.
“I am proud to see so many excellent examples of Queen Mary’s commitment to providing the very best for its students. We are fortunate to have such passionate and talented staff, without whom none of this would be achievable.”
Stephanie Marshall, Vice-Principal (Education) at Queen Mary University of London said: “Once again there were an incredibly strong set of nominations this year.
“It was pleasing to see so many outstanding contributions that further our reputation as an educationally excellent and innovative institution. Our staff have, as ever, gone the extra mile to provide students with a superb learning environment and make Queen Mary a better place, for which we are extremely grateful. Everyone at the University congratulates those we are celebrating tonight.”
