Becky Warne & Tanisha Aktar Ahmed with their awards
National Apprenticeship Week 2024 took place in February. Queen Mary marked the week with the Staff Apprenticeships Awards, offering a chance to reflect on the positive impact of apprenticeships, and the effort that goes into staff development at Queen Mary. Tanisha Aktar Ahmed and Becky Warne, two staff members in the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science (EECS), were both honoured at the awards ceremony.
Tanisha, Business Administration Apprentice in EECS, won the Rising Star award, given in recognition of recruited staff apprentices who have made impressive progress in their career to date, and have the potential to go even further. Becky, School Administrator in EECS, won the Apprentice Champion award, which recognises an individual who has gone above and beyond to champion staff apprenticeships at Queen Mary.
Commenting on her award, Tanisha said: “I have really enjoyed my time being an apprentice, it has given me the opportunity to gain practical skills and develop my knowledge whilst gaining a qualification. I feel proud to have won the Rising Star Apprentice award and could not have achieved this without the immense support from my manager and mentor throughout my apprenticeship!”
Becky said: ““Having an apprentice in my team has enabled me to develop my skills as a mentor, it has added a whole new dynamic to my job role and boosted my confidence. I’m honoured to receive the Staff Apprenticeship Champion Award in recognition of my efforts as a mentor and I’m excited to develop my skills further. I hope to continue being an approachable and supportive member of staff in the school of EECS and would encourage others to take on a mentoring role if the opportunity arises.”
Many congratulations to both Tanisha and Becky on this huge achievement from everyone within EECS!
