Profile

His other academic affiliation includes the Academic Director of the Ius Commune Research School, a cooperation between the Law Faculties of the universities of Maastricht (UM), Utrecht (UU), Amsterdam (UvA) and Leuven (K.U. Leuven). He is also the Academic Director of the European Centre of Tort and Insurance Law (ECTIL). Furthermore, he is a Member of the Humanities and Social Sciences Division of the Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen (Royal Netherlands Academy of Science).

In addition to his professorship, he is a practicing lawyer at the Lawyer’s Office Van Goethem Antwerp (Belgium), where he has involved in many cases in the field of environmental law. In addition, he is the Chairman of Flemish High Council of Environmental Enforcement.

Michael Faure’s core research is focused on environmental law and more particularly international environmental law and environmental criminal law. He is also an expert on the law and economics analysis, and particularly accident law.

Publications

Michael Faure has published and edited over 200 books and book chapters, and has published over 500 journal articles and other academic outputs in top international academic journals in English, German, Dutch and French respectively. Some of his recent publications include:

Public Engagement

Michael Faure has been invited by many prestigious universities worldwide as visiting professor, guest professor and expert speaker. He has conducted many editorial activities as member of editorial boards, consultant, and reviewer in international law journals. He is also highly active in leading and participating externally funded research projects.
