EUPLANT logo sat above the Erasmus+ logo which states 'with the generous support of the Erasmus+ programme of the European UnionThe EUPLANT Lecture Series on the Legal History of Europe-China Relations aims to introduce Bachelor, Master, and Postgraduate students to the many legal interactions that have characterised the relationship between Europe and China since the end of the 19th Century.

The Lecture Series will focus on various themes that include: the process in which China joined the civil law legal tradition at the end of the Qing Dynasty; the strong influence of European legal traditions in the development of the Chinese legal system; the building of EU-China relations through soft law instruments; the interactions between the EU and China in global governance that have shaped the evolution of the Chinese legal system (i.e. the impact of China’s accession to the World Trade Organisation); as well as well as the obstacles to rule of law as they have arisen in Chinese and European history as a result of political system changes, and how such challenges have been met, for example, with regard to the legal profession and human rights advocacy.
