'Addressing the issues of Accessing Education faced by New Migrants in Tower Hamlets'Co-sponsored by the Centre for the Study of Migration, Queen Mary, University of LondonDo you have problems accessing local services? Would you like to have your voice heard by local policy makers? Praxis Community Projects in partnership with Tower Hamlets Council are coordinating the New Residents and Refugee Forum. This forum will allow new communities to have access to local policy negotiation and ensure dialogue between new communities and service providers. The forum is open to statutory services, third sector organisations, and direct community representatives.This forum will discuss the barriers new communities face in accessing education. Of particular focus will be the provision of ESOL and further education options for young people from new communities that enter the UK school system at a late stage. These late arrivals have limited options once they complete their schooling due to a truncated experience of education and limited English language skills - UK universities require a level 2 in English before accepting students.This seminar is intended to provide the space for a wide range of stakeholders from public and third sector organisations, and new migrants in Tower Hamlets to come together to explore the barriers in accessing education faced by new migrants in the borough.
