The Department of German, in cooperation with the Swiss Embassy, will be hosting a reading by the distinguished Swiss writer Klaus Merz.
Klaus Merz, born in 1945 in Aarau, Switzerland, is a Swiss novelist and lyric poet. Besides his writing he worked for many years as a secondary school teacher and in adult education. He has written numerous short stories and other works of fiction, including the collection “Adams Kostüm” (2001) and the short novels “Jakob schläft” (1997) and “Der Argentinier” (2009). Klaus Merz has also published 20 books of poems among them “Aus dem Staub” (2010). Klaus Merz has won several prizes, e.g. the “Hermann-Hesse-Literaturpreis” in 1997, the “Gottfried Keller-Preis” in 2004, the “Werkpreis der Schweizerischen Schillerstiftung” in 2005 and, most recently, the “Basler Lyrikpreis 2012”.
The reading will be in German and will last approximately one hour and will be followed by a wine reception.
