The lecture will explore some of the ways in which synthetic chemistry has enriched our lives and highlight some of the (modest) contributions made by the lecturer.
Mike Watkinson graduated from the University of St. Andrews with a 1st Class BSc(Hons) degree in Chemistry (1991) which was followed by a PhD in Bioinorganic Chemistry at UMIST under the supervision of Professor Noel McAuliffe (1994). A Royal Society supported post-doctoral fellowship at the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, Spain was followed by further postdoctoral research at UMIST. He was appointed to a Lectureship in Inorganic Chemistry at QMUL in 1998 where he has been since.
