Time: 6:30pmVenue: Physics Lecture Theatre G O Jones Building Mile End Campus
Snowflakes, levitation, magnetism… each are phenomena that capture the imagination. Join theoretical physicists Piers Coleman and Jörg Schmalian and explore how their research can help you make sense of these marvels of nature. We will introduce you to the science behind phenomena that are experienced in everyday life, for example high speed Maglev trains, or touchscreen phones. Experience them first hand with our accompanying demonstrations. Chaired by Martin Dove, Director of the Centre for Condensed Matter and Materials Physics at QMUL, this event forms part of Condensed Matter Physics in the City, an annual Condensed Matter research meeting.
