Since antiquity, political associations, institutions and identities have long been tied to the possession and cultivation of property. The aim of this year’s conference is to consider interrelated themes of property, dominium and self-ownership in the history of political thought.
Proposals for papers and panels may wish to consider some of the following themes:
- Definitions of property and their historical development
- The concept of dominium, and the interplay between property and political authority
- Ownership of the self and others
- Property and freedom
- Property and citizenship
- Dominium and territory
- Colonialism and postcolonialism
- Ownership in feminist and minority discourse
