Slow Art and the Accelerated City: Amsterdam Street Views

10 October 2012

Time: 6:00pm
Venue: Room 3.20 (third floor), ArtsTwo Building, Mile End Campus

Global cities have been studied predominantly in terms of speed and movement, acceleration and circulation. This lecture will examine the relationship between globalization and cities in terms that run counter to such emphases, focusing instead on slowness as a condition in contemporary urban life. Analyzing a series of street photography projects in the city of Amsterdam, the lecture will address the role of “slow art” in neoliberal urbanization and city profiling.
