Teachers and student teachers are invited to Queen Mary University of London on 5th November to explore new methods and resources for teaching the First World War. This free event will be held at the Mile End Campus, E1 4NS.Come and listen to leading historian, Dr Dan Todman, talk about his ground breaking research on how we remember war. This summer, the centenary of the First World War has attracted huge media coverage and public attention. In this talk, Dr Dan Todman discusses the ways in which the centenary is being marked and the controversies that have arisen around it. Drawing on his experience of working with the BBC and the Imperial War Museums, he asks whether there is a 'right' way to commemorate the war, and why that has sometimes proved so difficult to find.You will have the opportunity to explore previously unpublished sources relating to key themes of life on the front line, the home front and medicine. Key sources will be highlighted, and there will be some suggested ways you might use these in the classroom. The learning resources identify rich individual stories taken from the Archives of Queen Mary University of London, and St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London Hospital Archives and in conjunction with the QMUL History Department.
