Time: 1:00 - 4:00pm Venue: Barts Pathology Museum, 3rd Floor, Robin Brook Centre, West Smithfield, London EC1A 7BE
Attend a four hour workshop at the museum to learn the exact techniques used to preserve human specimens in pathology collections today. The museum's technical curator, Carla Valentine (trained at The Royal College of Surgeons, UCL Pathology Collections and The Gordon at Kings) will guide you through the current method as you 'pot' a fixed animal heart to take home with you.
Included is a brief history of previous preservation techniques honed by masters such as Frederik Ruysch and John Hunter accompanied by a spectacularly illustrated talk, a glass of wine, and all materials used - including a beautiful tote bag (by Lozzy Bones) to carry your precious pot home in.
