You quickly understand in research, that it’s all about the choices you make. Of course there’s always going to be a certain amount of luck, a certain amount about playing the game but really if people aren’t impressed by the work you are doing, you’re doomed. So my lecture is about this journey and the people who have guided me along the way.
Jude Fitzgibbon received his BA degree in Natural Sciences (Genetics) at Trinity College Dublin in 1989 before completing his PhD studies on the Genetics of Tuberous Sclerosis at University College London in 1993. He joined QMUL as a postdoctoral fellow in Haemato-Oncology in 1997, becoming Senior Lecturer in 2004 and Reader in 2009. His research interests have weighed heavily on the genetic basis of human disease, with publications in NEJM, Nature Genetics, JCO and specialist blood cancer journals. He currently holds a programme grant funding from CRUK, and sits on a number of award panels including Cancer Research UK’s Clinical Fellowships Panel and on the International advisory board for the Lancet Haematology with a h index of 32 with c 3000 citations
