It feels like we are living in a “me generation” – a generation of people characterized by selfish materialism. Are people, more than ever, pre-occupied with themselves and only out for what they can get at the expense of others? Is social media partly to blame for this, or are other factors the main cause? Are we losing sight of our social responsibility to others? Or perhaps we have been persuaded by news stories that tell us we are in the grip of a growing epidemic of narcissism?
In a question time style event, researchers from different disciplines are invited to discuss these and other related topics under the theme “Is society becoming more narcissistic?”.
We will have four expert panellists drawn from different disciplines, each of which will give a very short presentation on how they would answer the question, and then they will take questions from the audience chaired by the host Dr Magda Osman, psychologist, and head of the Centre for Mind in Society at Queen Mary University of London.
