Time: 6:00 - 8:30pm Venue: PP1, People’s Palace, Queen Mary University of London, Mile End Road, London, E1 4NS
This is a a question-time style event for the Centre for Mind in Society, where four researchers from different disciplines are invited to discuss these and other related topics under the theme “Can we trust experts?” Each researcher will give a very short presentation on how they would answer the question, and then they will take questions from the audience chaired by the host.
The panelists include:
Professor Johanna Gibson (Law) Johanna has research interests in the creative industries, particularly fashion and film, and animal behaviour and welfare law and policy. She also has a research and education background in cultural studies, critical theory, film, and art history.
Professor Norman Fenton (School of Electronic Engineering and Computing) Norman develops methods so that non-experts can build and use models to solve real-world problems. His work applies to legal reasoning, medical trials, vehicle reliability, financial services and media personalisation.
Dr Isobel Roele (Law) Isobel focuses on collective security, public international law, war and global governance. Her work is informed by other disciplines, particularly arts and humanities.
Professor Pat Healey (School of Electronic Engineering and Computing) Pat draws on theories from sociology and psychology to understand human-computer interaction. His work is led by the potential of digital technologies to transform human communication.
Join us for this event, and take part in the debate. If you have questions you would like the researchers to answer during the debate, then follow this link and send in your questions, and we will present them to the panelists on the night.
Also, we are taking a poll, so have your say, and vote on whether or not you think we can trust experts. We will take a vote at the end of the event to see if opinions have changed!
The event will begin at 18:00 and last for 1 hour 15 minutes, after which there will be a wine reception.
