Dr Rachael Gilmour: Reader in English at QMUL and specialist in Postcolonial Studies. Editor at The Journal of Commonwealth Literature.
Professor Bill Schwarz: British historian, academic and writer, who is a Professor in the School of English and Drama at Queen Mary, University of London, his research focusing on postcolonial history.
Dr Clive James Nwonka: LSE Fellow in Film Studies in the Department of Sociology. His work explores issues of realism, race, class and representation in British and American cinema, and the institutional frameworks of the British film and TV industries. His published research includes writings on contemporary social realism, Black British cinema, film and architecture and diversity policy.
In early 1970s Harlem, daughter and wife-to-be Tish vividly recalls the passion, respect and trust that have connected her and her artist fiancé Alonzo Hunt, who goes by the nickname Fonny. Friends since childhood, the devoted couple dream of a future together, but their plans are derailed when Fonny is arrested for a crime he did not commit.
