Join the Mile End Institute for the third in our new series of distinguished Hennessy Lectures, celebrating Peter Hennessy's life and work.

Baroness Warsi was the first female Muslim Cabinet Minister in British history, serving as Chairman of the Conservative Party and Minister without Portfolio from May 2010 to September 2012. She then served as the Minister for Faith and Communities and Senior Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office until she resigned from the Coalition government in August 2014. She is now a non-affiliated member of the House of Lords and the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bolton.

Her first book, The Enemy Within: A Tale of Muslim Britain, was a superb exploration of how British Muslims have often been treated as 'the enemy within' and explored how cultural difference, religious freedom and integration, social justice and 'British values' interract in British life. In our third Hennessy lecture, she will be discussing her new book, Muslims Don't Matter: The Anatomy of a Prejudice, in which she addresses islamophobia in modern Britain and concludes that "it is time for Muslims to matter".
