Question 3 - What is the commodity code for my shipment?

The supplier should provide the commodity code on the quotation.

You can also check the commodity code for your goods prior to shipment, on the UK Trade Tariff website.

Question 4 - When using one of Queen Mary's contracted couriers to import goods into the UK, should I pay the applicable import duties and VAT prior to shipment delivery, if we receive a proforma invoice?

No, when using one of the preferred courier services such as DHL, Parcelforce or Fedex, you should pay the duties after delivery.

Question 5 - When using supplier's couriers to import goods into the UK, should I pay the applicable import duties and VAT prior to shipment delivery, if we receive an invoice?

Yes, please pay upon receipt on confirmation of import duties and VAT (if applicable).

Question 6 - Which forms to I need to fill in when exporting to the EU?

Queen Mary has contracts in place with various couriers. The courier will advise the correct forms to be completed.

Question 7 - Which Couriers should I use to import goods into the UK?

Question 8 - What should I do if supplier refuses to do the customs clearance due to new Brexit rules?
Check with the supplier if they can deliver the goods using one of Queen Mary's preferred courier companies. If not, you will need to contact Norman Logistics to do the customs clearance on your behalf. Please see link below for further guidance and contact details.

Question 9 - Who can clear my shipment at customs?

1. The supplier - if they are a UK registered company and can provide you a DDP quote (Delivered Duty Paid)

2. Courier Companies - if the goods can be shipped using one of the preferred couriers like DHL, Parcelforce or Fedex

3. Customs Agent - MartinTrux (EU) & Norman Logistics (rest of the world) are the appointed customs agent for Queen Mary. Please see link below for further guidance and contact details.

Question 10 - How do I know if import duties or VAT apply to my shipment?

Please check the commodity code for your goods on the UK Trade Tariff to obtain the applicable import duty rate and VAT.

Question 11 - How can I claim duty relief on my shipment?

Import duty relief can be claimed on:
           -Scientific instruments imported for educational purposes or non-commercial scientific research; and
           - Purchased / donated medical equipment to be used for medical purposes

To claim relief from Import Duty you must contact National Import Relief Unit (NIRU) as soon as you start the process of making a purchase.
