The Motor policy covers the driving of Motor cars, Mini buses and Vans owned, leased or hired by the university.

Use of vehicles
University vehicles should only be used for University purposes approved by the Head of Department or an authorised representative.
Authorised Drivers
Any person who has a full valid licence and is employed by the University is authorised to drive a University owned or hired vehicle. All drivers of minibuses will be required to be a least 25 years old and have a clear valid driving licence with category D1 for a minimum of two years.
Driving Licence
Any person wishing to drive a University vehicle or any hired vehicle must produce a full driver’s licence to their department. Also complete a declaration to be held by the department. This is to ensure that drivers have understood the University Regulations relating to the use of University motor vehicles. Departments need to ensure that all drivers must carry a valid driving licence covering the group and class of vehicles that they will drive on university business.
Any driver using vehicle on university business who has a motoring conviction or a medical condition that may affect their ability to drive must inform their department.
University owned vehicles
Department that own vehicles need to ensure that they always carry basic vehicle checks to ensure vehicles are road-worthy condition. Therefore all Road Tax, MOT and Service are completed on an annual basis.
Reporting of accidents
If a University owned or hired vehicle is involved in an accident, irrespective of whether an insurance claim may be involved, this must be reported immediately to the Insurance Manager. Please ensure that you take relevant details of the vehicle, driver and photographs of damages if possible.
Vehicles owned by individuals
Staff who use their own vehicle in connection with business including travel between different sites, driving to conferences must ensure that their insurance includes business use.
The university will not be liable in an event of an insurance claim whilst using your own vehicle.
