Queen Mary offers student bursaries to help with the costs of higher education.
These bursaries are aimed at students from lower income households.
The amount of the bursary you receive each year will depend on your household income which is assessed during your application for UK Government Financial Support.
Please note that all international students and those EU nationals who are only eligible for a tuition fee loan will not be eligible for a Queen Mary bursary.

We offer two annual student bursaries of £3,000-£1,000 for each of the three years, to eligible students who have received their secondary education in the London Boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Hackney or the City of London.

The Dr Richard Callander Hudson Student Bursary of £2,000 over three years is awarded annually to one eligible student studying for an MB BS medical qualification. The award provides £1,000 in the first year and two subsequent instalments of £500 each.
The Professor Wright Student Bursary of £2,000 over three years is awarded annually to one eligible student studying for an BDS dental qualification. The award provides £1,000 in the first year and two subsequent instalments of £500 each.

The Aldgate and Allhallows foundation provides scholarships over the duration of the course to undergraduate entrants who are permanent residents of either the City of London or the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
Candidates must also meet other specific eligibility criteria regarding age and means of support.

To encourage applications from students in financial hardship who would benefit from the MB BS or BDS programme, the trustees of St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College Trust are pleased to offer these new Scholarships to two new medical students and one new dental student each year.
The undergraduate scholarships are worth £5,000 for each of the five years of the course – subject to the holders’ satisfactory progress each year – and are named after:
The scholarships have been designed to assist students who, despite exceptional academic ability and their aptitude for a medical or dental career, might not be able to undertake the course for financial reasons.
All students who enrol in the School of Medicine and Dentistry are considered for the Scholarships, which are awarded on the basis of their household income (which is reviewed annually) and the attainment of at least three grade A A-levels taken in the same sitting. Students’ performance in their Fundamentals of Medicine/ Dentistry module (at the end of their first term) will also be a major criterion.
Students do not formally apply for one of these prestigious Scholarships! Instead, the School of Medicine and Dentistry will receive the relevant financial and academic information after you have enrolled and, depending on the Fundamentals of Medicine/ Dentistry results, will recommend the three best students, two from medicine and one from dentistry who also meet the financial requirements to the Trustees for their approval. Additionally, the School will report annually to the Trustees on the Scholarship holders’ academic performance.
The Trust awards a single scholarship to a student from East London, to the value of £15,000 per annum. Nomination of the scholar is by the SMD.
Barts and The London FMD is keen to support medical and dental student summer research projects. Two schemes are available this year.
Rod Flower Vacation Scholarships @ £100/week for student living expenses for projects of 4 to 8 weeks over the summer at a time convenient for the student and supervisor. We are particularly looking for applications from students currently doing intercalated BSc projects with a supervisor to allow them to continue research in any institute over the summer and hopefully contribute to a publication which will accelerate them along an academic career. Surgically related projects will be especially welcome. Applications from other medical and dental undergraduates who may wish to do a project with a named supervisor will also be considered, particularly those who have already struck up a working relationship with a supervisor. The FMD will do its best to support as many students as possible (usually 30-40), but if the scheme is over-subscribed, duration of the projects may be shortened to support as many students as possible.
Ian Hart Vacation Scholarships @ £100/week for the student and £100/week for the supervisor. Projects will be 4-6 weeks long to start at the end of July or August. Four studentships are available to work with supervisors at the Barts Cancer Institute (BCI) at Charterhouse Square. Please note: Students applying for this scheme will need to have contacted a potential supervisor and agreed a project.
Normally only ONE application per candidate and/or Project Supervisor will be supported, but in exceptional circumstances this rule may be relaxed.

The Rod Flower Vacation Scholarships are funded by the Medical College of St Bartholomew’s Hospital Trust.
The Trust also awards three intercalated degree bursaries in oral health and social care awarded annually with a value of £5,000 each. Again, nomination is by the SMD.
The Trust has donated a substantial grant to support the Dean’s Benevolence Transition Loan scheme. This interest-free loan is to help medical and dental students who are unable to cover their basic living costs between the end of their qualifying course, and their first salary payment from their FY1 job.

The scholarship is called the "Edward Tull-Warnock Scholarship". We offer two awards of £500 to BDS or BSc Oral Health students from an African or Caribbean ethnic background.
This marks the first year of the scholarship. It has been founded by Tanaka (Tj) Kadiyo, final year dental student at Barts and the London. The name of the scholarship pays respect to Edward Tull-Warnock, who is widely recognised as one of Britain's first Black professional dentists, qualifying in 1912. This scholarship has been kindly supported and sponsored by Colgate, who after conversation were impressed with the ideas, thoughts, and potential of this initiative. The ETW Scholarship aims to financially support two dental students in their studies (£500 each), but more importantly to act as a beacon to showcase talented future dental care professionals from a Black ethnic background. The hope is that by increasing visibility of the successful candidates, that we will inspire younger students from this under-represented ethnic group to pursue and excel in the dental field. All eligible applicants are encouraged to apply for this unique opportunity.

The Guild of the Royal Hospital of St. Bartholomew (www.bartsguild.org.uk) is a charity that has supported the patients, staff and students of St. Bartholomew’s hospital since 1911 and it continues to do so in many different ways. Dr Laurence Cartledge was house-surgeon to the Ophthalmology department at St. Bartholomew’s until his death in 1956. To mark the 60th anniversary of his death, a fund was donated by his family to be utilised by the Barts Guild.
This grant, of up to £1500, is made available to a medical student studying at Barts and The London SMD, who wish to benefit Barts Hospital through their work or their association with the Barts Guild and who find themselves in financial hardship. Applicants are invited to apply for this grant in order to relieve unforeseen financial pressures that cannot be resolved from alternative support.
The applicant is asked to be a member of the Barts Guild (free for students). Furthermore, the successful applicant will be requested to write a thank-you letter to the Cartledge family.

These grants, of up to £750 each, are made available to medical students studying at Barts and The London SMD, who wish to benefit Barts Hospital though their work or their association with the Barts Guild and who are in financial difficulty.
The grants are made in order to support elective placements that will provide candidates with experiences that will benefit their career and future patients. It will be an advantage for students to be undertaking an elective within the areas for which Barts is a specialist hospital; i.e. cardiology, cancer, endocrinology, fertility and sexual health medicine. In this case, students should provide details in their application.
The applicants are asked to be members of the Barts Guild (free for students). Furthermore, the successful applicants will be requested to provide (by email or hard copy) an elective summary, which may be published in the Barts Guild Newsletter and/or online.
