Chelsea is a second year student studying BSc Geography with Business Management with a Year Abroad.
If you are thinking about joining us in the School of Geography, the advice I would give is to make sure you take a look at all the available services the department has to offer. From careers advice to advise and feedback hours, these services will enhance your experience.
I chose to study at QMUL as I wanted to be on a campus-based university while in London, this allowed for a campus experience and everything being in one area made it easier to navigate around. I also wanted to attend a university that allowed me to take a business management course alongside geography and the wide range of modules on offer led me to placing QMUL as my first choice.
The reason why I chose to do geography with business management was because of the flexibility of modules that I could take. I can take either physical and/or human geography alongside business management modules. The diversity of this degree allows me to explore all the areas I’m interested in.
The thing I enjoy the most about my course is the wide range of modules that I get to pick. I decided to focus my modules on the human side of geography and the business management modules I take allow me to build on foundational understandings of different business areas.
Geography allows me to gain valuable skills in research, report writing and critical thinking skills that will aid me in getting a job in the future. The business part of my degree will allow me to explore jobs in a range of fields including marketing and human resources.
When on holidays or days off I like to explore more of London, going to museums and art galleries as well as going out for food and drinks. I also like to read books and travel to different places outside of London.
I would like to find an internship or graduate role that will allow me to continue my studies on a part time basis as well as work. I am unsure of the business sector that I want to go into, but I am sure that my degree will allow for a wide range of possibilities.
My advice would be to explore your local area that you are living in, it will make the transition of moving to London easier when you get to know your settings. Also, I would recommend exploring the campus and the resources that it has to offer.
