Michael is Programme Leader in Spanish and Latin American Studies at the Department of Social Science and Languages, Northumbria University. He has a forthcoming a book (manuscript submitted) on Spanish (Canaries/Galicia) immigration in Venezuela 1948-1998 and is the author of Politics in Venezuela: Explaining Hugo Chávez (2010, Oxford: Peter Lang). Michael has been researching immigration in the region since starting his PhD in 1995.
